It was built at an altitude of 1445 metres in the Malga Cherle area on the higher plains of Fiorentini and was a barrage of the higher plains of Folgaria. The fort was built in two parts: the casemate and the battery which were connected by a corridor. A moat surrounded it along with a fortino di counterscarp and three barbed-wire fences. In order to guard the terrain until Fort Sommo Alto, Fort Cherle was equipped with a battery “traditor”, which was on the right side of the casemate.
The fort immediately underwent heavy bombardment from the 280mm Italian battery which was situated in Campomolon.
