Mittelbatterie Riva Batteria di mezzo
It was built between the North Battery (Fort Sant’Alessandro) and Fort Garda
The Mittelbatterie Riva was built between the North Battery (fort Sant’Alessandro) and Fort Garda, facing Nago and the mouth of the river Sacra. It had a ‘Vogl’ style, meaning a type of fortification built on hills or mounds made of concrete and masonry. From this battery the line went down until the slopes of the mountain with a long barbed-wired trench that ran through the countryside until the junction at Nago. A part of it was made of hand carved blocks of stone, of which, some were granite. The roof was made of concrete. In 1915 a long gallery had been added, from which it was possible to keep an eye on the sloping wall of Mount Brione.
