Angeli mill. House of the scarecrow - Roncegno (Marter)
In the space where once the miller’s family lived is now Flavio Faganello’s collection of scarecrows.
On the mountain side of the River Brenta, near the Tor Tonda, stands the Angeli mill, driven by a roofed paddle water wheel with a diameter of 3 meters. It was documented in 1909 by the Decree of the award, an inheritance document where it is described in detail. After the World War I it was modernized with the introduction of a roller mill and a system of elevators that spread its operations over three floors. Two milling systems operated, traditional millstones used for grinding wheat and a roller mill for grinding corn. The kernels, using the elevators, were transported from the ground floor to the upper floors for cleaning and then taken back down again for grinding and the flour then sent up to the second floor to the sieves for sieving. The mill operated until about 1960, when Venanzio Angeli, the last miller left the business. The mill, which is now owned by the City of Roncegno Spa, has recently been restored and is operated for demonstration purposes. Educational workshops are conducted on the grain cycle by the Tri-folium Association of Borgo Valsugana. In the space where once the miller’s family lived, some of which was used for breeding silkworms, is now Flavio Faganello’s collection of scarecrows.
