Covel malga (mountain dairy) - Peio

Evidence of mountain pasturing

In 2002 the Goat project was started by the Alpine Sheep and Goat Club of Pejo, in cooperation with the Stelvio National Park at Covel malga (mountain dairy), located at 1856m above sea level. During the six months of mountain pasturing carried out on the communal meadowland milking is carried out with an automatic trolley. The approximately 3 quintals of milk produced each day from 170 goats and 250 sheep on the pasture is transformed into goat cheese and cottage cheese at the Communal Dairy in Pejo. Once a month there’s the day of weighing the milk, in which the members - there are about forty - go to the pasture to check the amount of milk produced by their animals.
