70 years of a European Republic. Alcide De Gasperi’s vision and courage
Border stories at the centre of history

Lectio degasperiana (lecture on De Gasperi) by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella
Seventy years after the referendum between Monarchy and Republic (with the electoral participation of the Italian women for the first time), and seventy years after the De Gasperi-Gruber agreement – which is also at the base of autonomy in Trentino -, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will honor the courage and vision of this important statesman.
He will speak about De Gasperi and about the challenges facing our country and Europe; the venue of this meeting is Pieve Tesino, right there where De Gasperi was born, in the heart of one of the most significant areas in Italy, scene of the First World War, but also of the circulation of people and ideas between the heart of Europe and the Mediterranean.
Mattarella’s lecture on De Gasperi is not an appointment only for experts in history, but it’s an opportunity to reflect on current issues that go beyond small events and involve the deep meaning of civil life.
De Gasperi’s political courage, moral rectitude and confidence in the Italians can suggest to us not only a style of governing, but of democratic cohabitation.
Access to the room will be allowed within 17.00, until all available seats are taken.
