A night in Venice

The new Operetta Season is back, on Thursday 7 April (at 20.30) at the Teatro Sociale of Trento with "UNA NOTTE A VENEZIA | A NIGHT IN VENICE", an opera by Johann Strauss to a libretto by Camillo Walzel and Richard Genée, performed by the Compagnia Teatro Musica Novecento, with the Orchestra Cantieri d'Arte conducted by Stefano Giaroli, and the Ensemble Vocale Continuum conducted by Maestro Luigi Azzolini. Direction by Alessandro Brachetti.
A masterpiece of Viennese operetta for the dazzling richness of its musical invention, A night in Venice is an operetta rarely performed, especially in Italy, because its grandiose "picturesque" apparatus stages a Venice seen through the eyes and conventions of the Viennese of the 19th century, enhanced by the great inventiveness of the King of Waltz. Arias, duets and ensembles of extraordinary beauty traverse this fantasy Venice, solar and lunar, seen through the formal Viennese elegance, in which, against the picturesque and carnivalesque background of the city, everyone is happily drawn in: all masked at the great ball of misunderstandings and disguises around the gallant lusts of a rich libertine on a pleasure trip.
The second and last event of the season is scheduled for 28 May, again at the Teatro Sociale, with another masterpiece by Johann Strauss: "The Blue Danube".
