Art from the Shoah

On the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance Day, Mart in Rovereto joins the project “Art from the Shoah”, that involves museums and theatres from all over Italy.

Second edition of the “Art from the Shoah”, the project has been realized by the ECAD association and sponsored by the Ministry of cultural heritage and activities and tourism in order to “replace memory/remembrance into its function of helping in the reality’s perception”.

On the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance Day, on 27^th January several museums and theatres are taking part in this initiative by exhibiting works of art or spreading texts written by people who have experienced the Shoah. It’s the second year that Mart in Rovereto has joined this project.

On the 27^th January, from 10 till 18, there will be an extraordinary art exhibition, where two works or art by Vasilij Vasil'evič Kandinskij (Mosca, 1866 - Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1944) and two by Lyonel Feininger (New York, 1871 - 1956) will be exposed. These works were considered “degenerate” from Nazism, because they were against the regime politics. The 2016 edition’s theme of  the “Art from the Shoah” is the so-called “degenerate art”. The 2016 reflection considers the works of art and the texts produced during the Nazi dictatorship: “extracts, small witnesses surviving the destruction.

Some mediators from the Education Area are going to welcome the visitors at the Mart all day and provide explanation on the project, the works and the artists who have realized them. Through the art exhibition and the contextualized knowledge of the works it will be possible to examine in depth one of the most agonizing pages of history.

Mart confirms its commitment to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day through an educational focus and the promotion of important works of art from their own Collections. Within the contemporary section of “The collections” exhibition, in addition to the already present masterpieces, the visitors will found on 27^th January :
