"On 6 August 1945 the destruction of Hiroshima changed the history of the world. Almost a hundred thousand people were killed in an instant. There was a new way of dying: from radiation. In a few years the world’s nuclear arsenals grew to include up to 70,000 bombs; the future of humanity was threatened. Diplomacy succeeded in reducing the number to “just” 20,000. Some nations relinquished these arms, but the most powerful states did not wish to be without them. Civil society then tried to intervene, and in 2017 a treaty prohibiting nuclear bombs was approved, but... "
