Open Palazzos 2022 - Church of San Giovanni

The charming little church of San Giovanni stands near the village of Massimeno.
It stands on a hillock from which one can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and a large part of the valley. The church dates back to the Middle Ages and was erected and enlarged in 1694. Between 1400 and 1500 it was frescoed by the Baschenis, travelling decorators.
The frescoes on the façade are attributed to Simone Baschenis, while in the interior transepts are those of Antonio and Filippo painted at a later date.
