"Segantini and Brianza"
Temporary exhibition at the G. Segantini Art Gallery

In collaboration with Mart, Museum of modern and contemporary art of Trento and Rovereto.
The temporary exhibition "Segantini e la Brianza", hosted in the exhibition spaces of the Galleria Civica G. Segantini in Arco, offers a focus on Giovanni Segantini's years spent in Brianza, thanks to a selection of works made available by some private collections.
The opportunity for this in-depth study is provided primarily by the acquisition of the wonderful painting "La Pompeiana" by the Municipality of Arco: in 2020 it became part of its collection and it is now on display for the first time at the Galleria Civica G. Segantini of Arco.
The Brianza time was a decisive experience for the artist, who in those quiet places was able to fully experience the sacred feeling of communion of humanity and the animal world, a concept that is expressed in masterpieces such as the paintings "Le due madri" or "Ave Maria a trasbordo", and which also became an aesthetic figure for his subsequent production.
With this exhibition, we have a unique opportunity, that is to establish a comparison between two similar but not equal editions of the Album Brianza 1884, a real artist's book, of which only four copies are currently known, created by Segantini and Grubicy, to collect a series of photographic reproductions of the paintings made by Segantini during his stay in Brianza.
This sequence was built together with Vittore Grubicy de Dragon, Segantini's gallery owner, and the famous Pagliano e Ricordi photographic studio, as a portfolio of the artist's activity and a vehicle for promoting his pictorial production.
