Sentinels of Stone 2016
From fort to fort along the Path of Peace
After last year’s success, 2016 sees the return of Sentinels of Stone: from fort to fort along the Path of Peace, the festival held in the fortifications of Trentino’s Circuit of Forts. The varied season includes shows, hikes, children's workshops, readings, book presentations and a contemporary art exhibition, in unique and attractive places such as the fortresses of Trentino. Following the Path of Peace - from Tonale to the Dolomites, via Lake Garda - more than 100 years after the beginning of hostilities between Austria and Italy, the Circuit of Forts in Trentino presents this second edition of the festival. The project has the aim of developing and promoting the Forts of Trentino, transforming places designed for war into extraordinary tools for popularising history and the culture of peace through the arts.
A rich and varied programme has been planned: 7 different theatre shows will take place in 12 different Austro-Hungarian First World War forts: performances which will offer new ideas of understanding and reflection on the First World War.
There will be a focus on families and particularly children, with a dance workshop and children's theatre planned for six different events. There will also be a number of easy hikes to eight forts along the Path of Peace, suitable for everyone and accompanied by theatrical interludes.
There will also be a busy calendar of presentations for Nicola Fontana’s important volume La regione fortezza: there will be 7 events to promote the book, fruit of a year’s work, which reconstructs the complex and intricate fortification process of Tyrol under the Habsburg monarchy.
These appointments will also be accompanied by contemporary art installations inside the forts as part of the Arte Forte project.
