Sentinels of Stone 2019 - Arte Forte Limited Edition Parallel Stories

Parallel Stories is the title of the exhibition that refers the dialogue and parallel between distant narratives, in this case between Africa and Europe. At Fort Cadine, the works of Willie Bester are compared with the works of the duo of Slovak artists Mitrítová & Demjanovi. This comparison gives rise to a historical-sociological reflection on the traces left respectively by Apartheid in South Africa and the Soviet regime in Eastern Europe.

At Fort Tesoro, the second venue of the exhibition, the three-dimensional Jackson Nkumanda panels, which represent the multicultural daily life of South African townships, alternate with the iconic terracottas by Pietro Weber, creating a contrast between the one and the multiple, between solitude and community spirit.
