Cinema

Once again this year Trento Film Festival presents numerous appealing events, with many guests from the world of mountain climbing, theworld of culture and cinema and fromthe show business. 108 films are on the agenda, 23 of whichin competition; more than 500 works were registered.

The “Guest country” is Chile, with an extensive programme of films and meetings, in collaboration with the Chilean Embassy in Italy and the National Museum of Mountains CAI-Turin.

Reinhold Messner is the protagonist of the first evening event (29th April at 21.00, Santa Chiara Auditorium) entitled “South! The last trip”, (directed by Sandro Filippini), which represents the storyof the greatest adventure of all times: the Ernest Shackleton's Endurance Expedition in Antarctica.

Many anniversaries are celebrated this year: besides the 30th “Montagnalibri” fair, the 64th Festival commemorates the centenary of Shackleton's Endurance expedition, 70 years after the birth of the “Ragni of Lecco”, 60 years of the service “Safety and Rescue in the mountains” of the State Police, 60 years after the first climb to Mount Sarmineto in Chile, 400 years after the first crossing of Cape Horn, 250 years from the birth of Malthus and150 years since the word “ecology” has been coined.
