Imaginary etnography

Small museum of primitive art

Marco Barina has created a very personal "small museum of primitive art". Tools and instruments from the rural and artisan world magically turn into bodies, masks, small idols and totems.
Barina’s sculptures, on display at the Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina (Museum of the habits and customs of the people of Trentino) until 28 August, interact with the other objects on display in the showcases of the museum. They seem to emerge from primordial worlds and at the same time they are alive.

Imaginary etnography is therefore a trip to the memory of ancestral forms realized from hoes, spades, bowls and sinks. A journey full of surprises. This is because - as the philosopher Maurizio Ferraris wrote – “Barina finds things done, but with those things he creates other things, unforeseen, beautiful, and at the same time readable and mysterious”.

Marco Barina (1956), artist from Rome, became a sculptor after having worked in the field of journalism, economy, project management and after some adventures…
