“We’ve asked three expert mathematicians to let us find out the presence of mathematics in unexpected fields, that is in medicine, biology and even in literature” - Stefano Baratella, scientific coordinator of the conferences

After all, time and thought modify one’s vision little by little, and eventually understanding comes…

This quotation from Paul Cézanne’s Letters seem to “seal” the series of conferences organized by the University of Trento – Department of Mathematics - which started on 10 March 2016 at the Auditorium of the Department of Liberal Arts -, in order to disclose the hidden side (though not dark) of mathematics.

We’ve asked three expert mathematicians to let us find out the presence of mathematics in unexpected fields, that is in medicine, biology and even in literature. In this way we’ll learn how this discipline helps us delve deeper our knowledge in other disciplines; at the same time mathematics allows us to improve the quality of our life, and it offers inexhaustable stimuli for our intellect.

These conferences address to students as well as to anybody who is curious and willing to go beyond mathematics, how it’s taught at school.
