Courtly love

Cultural exhibitions and events

According to a legend, Castel Caldes was prison to a young woman named Olinda, maybe to be identified with Marianna Elisabetta Thun; the latter was in fact imprisoned by her father Rodemondo in a small room to prevent her from getting married to Arunte, a minstrel she loved and whom she died for.

On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July, the tormented love story of Olinda and Arunte will give us the opportunity to revive courtly love atmospheres, through music and storytelling.

Thanks to the reproduction of a medieval market, of craft shops and taverns, with jugglers and minstrels, the visitors at the castle will be involved in the reenactment of ancient games.

On Saturday evening a group of dancers-acrobats will present an enchanting show of aerial dance on the façade of the castle, evoking the legend of Olinda and Arunte.

"Dear father, dear daughter": aerial dance by the company “il Posto” (original creation for Castel Caldes)

"The village of games” by the Compagnia S. Giorgio e il Drago: 12 ancient games and entertainers in period costumes.

The Devil’s Jesters will entertain the audience all over the two days; on Saturday night and on Sunday they will perform different shows.

Hortus Musice: itinerant minstrels

Entertainment in the castle with three actors and two musicians

Compagnia delle Dodici Lame: all day long entertainment by re-enactors in period costumes and a small gatehouse (in front of the Castle and along the streets of the village)

Historical market: food and nutrition, leather, wax factory, dyeing fabrics. Workshop with wood and calligraphy.
